Description
Along the High Road to Taos, in the small town of Truchas, sits Nuestra Senora del Sagrado Rosario (Our Lady of the Holy Rosary). Finding the church isn’t really all that easy. It actually sits behind a few other buildings just past the turn to continue on the High Road. You either have to know where it is, or as with us, have someone point it out to you. When we were there in the fall of 2013, the church was undergoing some work, with the church yard inside the surrounding wall filled with work materials.
Textures have been added to the image to provide an aged effect.
Truchas, New Mexico, is a small mountain settlement founded by 2 Spanish families in the mid-1700s. Nuestra Senora del Sagrado Rosario is a small church said to have been built around 1760; it underwent renovations in 1878, and more changes were made by 1900, including a corrugated pitched roof, a belltower, and a buttress on the south wall.
