Description
Mike's 66 - as stated on his license plate. Obviously, from the beautiful state of it, this Ford pick-up is Mike's pride and joy. We found this beauty outside Austin's Chuckwagon General Store in Torrey, Utah. Torrey is a small town just in southern Utah just outside Capitol Reef National Park.
From the torreyutah.com website: "The gateway to Capitol Reef National Park, the pretty little tree-filled town of Torrey is one of Southern Utah's jewels. The town was settled in the 1880's by Mormon pioneers. Sand Creek, flowing from Thousand Lake Mountain attracted the settlers as a good source of water for their families and crops. No doubt they appreciated the magnificence of Thousand Lake Mountain, as a beautiful edifice as well as a grass-filled home for their livestock. Later, in 1910, The Torrey Canal finally reached Torrey from its exit out of The Fremont River nearly 11 miles west of Torrey. This major feat provided more water and gave birth to more ranches. Legend has it that Torrey was named after one of Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, Colonel Torrey.
The population of the town itself is 182. It is estimated as many live in the area surrounding Torrey. The elevation is 6830 feet, making the summers very pleasant. The winter temperatures range from 0 to 60 degrees. The summer temperatures range from 50 to 90 degrees. "
"Torrey has had many famous visitors, among them John Wesley Powell, Butch Cassidy, Zane Grey, Maynard Dixon and Wallace Stegner. Torrey is currently home for an eclectic group of people. There is a mixture of the descendants of the pioneers and a variety of newcomers, many of whom like to hike and explore the vast surroundings of mountains & canyons & deserts & rivers."

This picture makes me nostalgic. My grandpa had a pickup in blue in a similar style pickup truck. I love the composition and the enhancements. The vertical lines create movement and tension. Good job!
