Description
An rusted antique wringer washer found behind the historic Gifford farmhouse in Capitol Reef in southern Utah. A relic from days gone by.
**********
From nps.gov: "The Gifford farm lies in the heart of the Fruita valley, a desert oasis described by Wallace Stegner as "...a sudden, intensely green little valley among the cliffs of the Waterpocket Fold, opulent with cherries, peaches, and apples in season, inhabited by a few families who were about equally good Mormons and good frontiersmen and good farmers." The 200 acre Fruita Rural Historical District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
***********
From capitolreef.org: "Capitol Reef National Park lies in Utahs south-central desert, an oasis of colorful sandstone cliffs, impressive domes, and soaring monoliths. Once called Wayne Wonderland, the park got its name in part from the great white rock formations which resemble the U.S. Capitol building, and from the sheer cliffs that presented a barrier to early travelers. Early inhabitants referred to the area as the land of the sleeping rainbow because of its beautiful contrasts: multi-colored sandstone surrounded by verdant riverbanks and arid desert vegetation, all nestled beneath deep blue skies. The area was designated as a national monument in 1937 and reclassified as a national park in 1971. The park is open year-round. "

Great piece. I wonder how many people remember these old washing machines. Love the colors which add rich texture to the piece in contrast to the white barrel. Nice job!
