Description
The stylized metal fish sculptures in the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, in Cairns Australia.
The lagoon area spans 4 hectares, and is capable of accommodating 1000 swimmers at a time. It is open for free public use between 6am and 10pm daily. The area is totally alcohol and glass free, and dogs are prohibited. The depth of the pool ranges from 80 cm (32 inches) to 1.6m (5 feet), and disability access is provided at one end of the pool. There are seating benches underwater which are lit from underneath. 3.8 million litres of seawater is continually filtered through four huge sand filters and through state of the art filtration and chorination processes to ensure the safe disinfection of the lagoon for the many families and visitors who come here every day to cool off, soak up the sun and relax by the lagoon on it’s sandy beaches.
The Cairns Esplanade, in Tropical North Queensland, Australia, has been a focal point for locals and visitors in Cairns city since the region was founded in the late 1800s. It is a recreational area for people from all walks of life — backpackers travelling around Australia, visitors looking for a beautiful view during an early evening dinner, couples having an early morning jog, teenagers using the skateboard ramp, CBD workers resting on the grass for lunch, and countless more.
