Description
A sign along a remnant of Route 66 through New Mexico, specifically Tucumcari, is enhanced with an overlay of an old map of Route 66, plus a texture or two.
From Wikipedia: U.S. Route 66, also known as the Will Rogers Highway and colloquially known as the Main Street of America or the Mother Road, was one of the original highways within the U.S. Highway System. Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926with road signs erected the following year. The highway, which became one of the most famous roads in America, originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles. It was recognized in popular culture by both the hit song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" and the Route 66 television show in the 1960s.
Today, remnants of Route 66 parallel interstate 40 through the western states. It is possible to exit the interstate and drive on these remnants to see many relics from the road's heyday.

I was through here many times as a kid - we lived in Albuquerque but my dad's family lived in Missouri and we would drive there in the summer for a vacation - on Route 66. I still remember how much Daddy hated the long stretches of two lane road because of all the semi traffic that made it impossible for us to see around them to pass safely. Those were such long trips . . . I love your idea of using a map of Rte 66 for the background. Very nicely done.

What a nice surprise to see a photo from my hometown and current residence! Great description and great picture! Reading everyone's comments was enlightening. The restaurant Everett Hickam referenced has to be Del's Restaurant. They serve excellent Mexican and American food and have great atmosphere for Route 66 nostalgia. Thank you for your exposure of our town!
Bob and Nancy Kendrick replied:
Thanks so much Sheri! You actually live in Tucumcari - small world! Think we've eaten at Del's once. Love your little town - some wonderful pockets of charm!

very well put together I love it. I have to assume somewhere west of Oklahoma and probably west of Texas Panhandle and a section I didn't get to but wish I had. L/F

Thanks so much Jeff! The description mentions that this section is in Tucumcari, NM. Lots of nostalgia in this little town! If you get there, check out the Blue Swallow Motel right on route 66 - see some of the photos in our gallery.
